Being a camp counselor at a summer camp is one of the greatest summer jobs out there. Don’t believe us yet? Here’s our top 10 reasons of why you absolutely should join our team at Congressional Camp!

1 . Work in an amazing Environment

Congressional Camp is located on a sprawling 40-acre campus, equipped with a pool, ropes course, archery range, and horseback riding. Working at camp allows you to enjoy all the campus has to offer. Check out our virtual 360° tour here.

2. Become a child’s hero

Being a camp counselor means that you become a large part of a child’s life in their most formative years. Gaining a relationship with children at our Day Camp is a meaningful way to spend your summer and can create a lasting impact on the kids!

“Every day when I see campers with a smile on their face as they get off the bus, I know that we have done a good job and succeeded in getting the day started off right.” Julio Lopez, Camp Transportation and Supplemental Manager

3. You get paid to have fun

Instead of spending money this summer, you can get paid to have fun. Congressional Camp offers a wide range of activities that counselors get to experience for free, such as trips to Amusement and Water Parks, Indoor Skydiving, Trampoline Parks, and Arcades like Dave and Busters.

4 . Build a great resume with extra qualifications

Working at Congressional Camp allows you to build a great resume!  You will gain experience in creative problem solving, strategic planning, decision-making, resolving conflict, and effective communication. You could also gain extra certifications, such as: CPR and First Aid, Lifeguard Certification, Ropes Course Certification, Archery Instructor Certification, and Medication Administration Training (MAT).

“Being a head lifeguard at Congo Camp taught me valuable management and safety skills that prepared me for success as Water Safety Coordinator at Goldfish Swim School.” Moses Gregorio, Aquatics Director at Congressional Camp

5. It’s a day camp!

The idea of a sleepaway camp might be daunting to some people. No more uncomfortable bunk beds or waking up at the crack of dawn. Our camp day starts at 8:15 AM and ends at 3:45PM, but still allows for you to enjoy essential sleepaway camp experiences.

6. The outdoor activities

Being a camp counselor at Congressional Camp provides you with many opportunities outdoors. Kayaking, Hiking, Firebuilding, Fishing, Horseback Riding, Archery - you name it!

7. Travel to new places

If you join our Travel Camp team, you can adventure all around D.C., Northern Virginia, and nearby states. Our travel camps have a long list of amazing trips: Rafting, laser tag, picnicking on the National Mall, visiting the Smithsonian museums, Hiking through Great Falls, and visiting amusement parks like Hershey Park, Kings Dominion, and Six Flags.

8. Develop leadership skills

Working at camps allows you to develop leadership skills. As a camp counselor, you will lead a group of children throughout the day. In doing this, you will have the ability to clearly communicate instructions, multitask, make decisions that are good for the group, and set an example as a role model. These are key ways to fine-tune your leadership skills!

9. Stay Active all summer

Working at camp allows you to stay fit while working on your tan. Relay races, rock wall climbing, tug-of-war, swim races, and more - there is an abundance of activities that will allow you to live a healthy and active lifestyle. As you explore our campus, you’ll easily reach 10,000 steps by lunchtime!

10. Make lasting friendships

You will meet some of your best friends here. At Congressional Camp, you will get an opportunity to work side-by-side with new people.

“I met some of my best friends at camp! Congressional Camp helps foster these relationships by creating opportunities to spend time outside of work.  There's a reason I've been here as long as I have. I love everything about camp!” Andrea Portillo, EHP Director and 10th Summer at Congressional Camp
